Meredith Herman is a DO candidate at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic
Medicine. She earned her BSc in Biomedical Laboratory Science with Honors from Michigan
State University (’17), receiving the Stevens Award in Medical Technology for graduating with
the highest GPA from her program. As an undergrad, she was a Summer undergraduate
physician-scientist education and research program fellow while she conducted independent
research on genetic changes associated with cerebral aneurysm formation. She volunteered as
a Laboratory Outreach Intern at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services where
she engaged in science education at science fairs and classrooms across the community.
Meredith was also the recipient of the John K Welch, Lori Ann Swantko-Neer, Leroy G
Augenstein, and Dr. Alfred Borgatti endowed scholarships. In medical school, Meredith
participated in a Post-Sophomore Pathology Fellowship at the University of Toledo where she
worked in a variety of rotations in autopsy, surgical pathology, hematopathology, and cytology.
At Toledo, she taught pathology lectures to pre-clinical students, and frequently worked with
clerkship students on their pathology elective. During the pandemic, she co-established the
Michigan State University CHM-COM Pathology Interest Group to create a community between
allopathic and osteopathic schools. She is currently President of this group and continues to
help create in-person and virtual events to educate students about pathology alongside her
colleagues.
