Emily Hagen is an MD candidate at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine (‘23) and is a graduate of Cornell University (‘17). She graduated with distinction with her B.S. in Human Development. Emily was a member of Kappa Omicron Nu, the National Human Sciences Honor Society. Upon graduation, she received the Henry Riccuiti Award for Outstanding Senior in Human Development, which honored her for being in the top 25% of her class in Human Development and for her service, leadership, and research achievements. While in college, Emily wrote science articles for The Cornell Daily Sun newspaper, including one on the autopsy. She also researched ethical reasoning and wisdom. Emily co-authored a chapter in the Cambridge handbook of wisdom and an article in the SAGE Encyclopedia of Lifespan Human Development regarding wisdom, its development, and how it can be taught in educational settings. Emily additionally served as a teaching assistant and a general chemistry tutor. After college, she worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York as a Clinical Research Coordinator for two years. In this role, Emily helped to conduct multiple phase three clinical trials on renal cell carcinoma treatments, including one that was FDA approved in 2019.
As a medical student, Emily is participating in the Bioethics and Professionalism Honors Program for which she is conducting a research project on the autopsy with Drs. Kamran Mirza and Emily Anderson. She is also a producer of the Medicus podcast. At PathElective, Emily is serving as a member of the anatomic pathology faculty for the forensic pathology/autopsy course.
