Objectives

  • Identify features of benign thyroid nodules on aspirate smears.

  • Identify features of common malignant thyroid neoplasms (eg. papillary thyroid carcinoma, medullary thyroid carcinoma).

  • Learn different acellular (background) features associated with various thyroid nodules.

  • Learn the diagnostic categories in the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytology.

  • Learn some molecular alterations of common thyroid neoplastic entities.
